Not even 24 hours into our “Pick two stocks and try to beat out eMom though there really is no true purpose†contest, and things have already started to heat up! Jumping right in, here is our Monday night leaderboard! (PLEASE NOTE: The following point distribution was created on the the fly and is completely random, you will see a lot of this throughout our contests here at ST101!)
THE LEADERBOARDÂ
- eMom Wendy Piersal not only had our double bet pick of Adobe (ADBE) end the day seeing green, but she also linked up her readers to the contest! That is good for 1,000 + 3,000 points (respectively) bringing her to a total of 4,000 points straight out of the gate!
- In 2nd place is Derrich from derrich.com who saw both of his picks end the day up which is good for 1,000 points (500 x 2), and since it is his birthday today he gets an added 1,000 point bonus, happy birthday man! Derrich as a result is sitting comfortably in 2nd place with 2,000 points.
- TIED in third place are both Jim Kingsland from the Kingsland Report and Frugal Trader from the Million Dollar Journey, both with 500 points for having one of their picks ending the day in the green.
- Investoid from Investoid.com saw both of his stock end in the red, with one just barely down $.05 on the day, which is what I like to call a “bad beat!”(good for 100 points!). Keep an eye out for him later this week!
UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT, DERRICH
Derrich is the first contestant to be put under the spotlight this week, and here are three extremely sophisticated, complex, and challenging questions that Derrich so graciously answered for me:
Q. You chose BAK and YHOO as your two stock picks, why?
A. I picked BAK because in that last 6 months, it was upgraded by 3
analysts. Â So, I’ve been watching it closely. They pay a dividend. Â They are
the major player in thermoplastic resin in Brazil. Â Think cars and
semiconductors. Â And I explain my Yahoo! pick here:

(FYI on BAK, Blain:

Q. Name your favorite publicly trading company? What it’s ticker and why do you like it so much?
A. I like Valero GP Holdings LLC (soon to be NuStar) quite a bit (VEH).
Valero (VLO) is the nation’s largest refiner…maybe the world’s largest.
And its got a great track record. Â Well Valero GP holds interests in VLO.
And they pay a dividend yield of 4.6%. Â Best of all, it is based in San
Antonio…my hometown.
Q. Readers have to know Derrich, what is your favorite kind of sandwich?
A. Reuben…hands down.
